Hand, the band originating from Switzerland whose classic album, Everybody’s Own (1972) we reissued in 2012, has just recorded their 3rd album of original music on Golden Pavilion Records since the band reunited in 2013. Dormant for four decades, Hand has returned to vibrant life with founding members Marc Osborne, principal singer and songwriter, and Nick Zoullas, whose harmonica helps create Hand’s signature sound. They are joined by an assortment of brilliant musicians, most of them in their late teens and early twenties, the ages at which the original members of Hand recorded their seminal first album in Bienne, Switzerland. Fresh off their most recent album, “Little Heartaches”, recorded in Florence, Italy, and favorably compared in the pages of Record Collector magazine to “the temper and texture of Bob Dylan’s Rolling Thunder Revue”, awarding it 4 stars, comes Hand’s “Dream to Ride”. The album consists of a series of songs written by Osborne, together with female vocalist and lyricist Mariel Yaghsizian, granddaughter of Jazz giant Dave Brubeck, exploring the complex terrain where love and friendship intersect. Each song stands firmly on its own, yet weaves a narrative that makes “Dream to Ride” a concept album for our time. The music, as ever, proves to be eclectic and challenging to categorize, delving into many musical genres including rock, jazz, bossa-nova, folk, and country, perhaps best described collectively as Americana. It is the most adventurous and far reaching effort yet by a band whose newfound energy and creativity show no signs of abating. Limited to 300 copies on vinyl
